US Drone Manufacturer Integrates Jam-Proof Optical Navigation Systems - Defense Advancement

#artificialintelligence

Asio Technologies is integrating its NavGuard optical navigation systems into the drone platforms of a US customer to enable accurate, autonomous GNSS-free navigation in areas where the GNSS signal is spoofed, jammed, or unavailable. Using cutting-edge machine vision technology, AI, advanced optics, and sensor fusion, NavGuard can be installed on unmanned aerial platforms to enable safe and sustainable 24/7 drone missions under complete GNSS blackout. Designed for a variety of applications, such as defense, homeland security, and infrastructure security, Asio's solution can aid tactical drone missions where payload capacity and flight time are limited, and continuous operation under all conditions is critical. "We are honored to announce that another customer is choosing NavGuard as the product of choice for their platforms," said David Harel, Asio Technologies CEO. "Based on real-time geo-referencing of optical video streams to an on-board geo infrastructure, the NavGuard systems generate low latency accurate positioning throughout the entire mission, enabling operational freedom anytime and anywhere."

Advancing Microchip Connectivity for Next Generation Sensory Systems - Defense Advancement

#artificialintelligence

Lockheed Martin and Ayar Labs have formed a strategic collaboration to develop future sensory platforms that leverage Ayar Labs' advanced optical I/O microchips that use light to transfer data faster, at a lower latency, and at a fraction of the power of existing electrical I/O solutions. The new platforms could be used across Department of Defense (DoD) applications to capture, digitize, transport, and process spectral information. "As the complexity and amount of data grows on the battlefield, faster decision-making is essential. New innovative system architectures, coupled with AI and machine learning techniques, are needed for our customers' mission success," said Steve Walker, chief technology officer and vice president, Engineering & Technology at Lockheed Martin. "Ayar Labs' optical interconnect solution provides the necessary technology to process spectral information with greater speed and lower latency for next-generation system designs."

New Mobile Surveillance Tower for Autonomous Force Protection & Counter UAS - Defense Advancement

#artificialintelligence

Anduril Industries has announced the launch of Mobile Sentry, a ruggedized, mobile platform that uses Artificial Intelligence for highly accurate, persistent autonomous ground or air awareness. Mobile Sentry leverages AI-enabled edge processing, continuous 360 monitoring and a variety of radars and sensors to autonomously identify, detect and track objects of interest in a given environment. Multi-mission capable, the system can be customized with a variety of sensors, payloads or communications equipment for autonomous force protection and counter UAS at forward-deployed military bases, borders, oil and gas fields or other critical infrastructure. According to Anduril, Mobile Sentry can be positioned, set up, calibrated and operational in under 20 minutes by one operator with no specialized MOS, training or Anduril support required. It is infrastructure independent, with integrated power generation and uninterrupted power supply battery solutions.

New AI-Powered Data Analysis Tool - Defense Advancement

#artificialintelligence

Systematic has developed a new AI-powered data analysis tool designed to transform data collection and management, providing commanders with an advanced data capture and analysis capability. SitaWare Insight decision support tool builds upon the successful SitaWare Headquarters C4I system. The new product enhances users' Intelligence Requirements Management (IRM) and Collection Management (CM) capabilities, making it easy to store and retrieve information from multiple sources. Henrik Sommer, SitaWare Insight product manager and domain expert, said, "SitaWare Insight exploits the'data lakes' that militaries control, formed from sensor information, images, videos, documents and more. The solution provides a secure, scalable repository for this information and an AI-powered search function, allowing users to pinpoint data on everything from enemy positions, images, documents to equipment. "It's like a military version of a commercial search engine, allowing access to the information you need, when you need it." It significantly enhances Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB), offering advanced decision support through data collection, storage, and analysis. For example, operators could use SitaWare Insight to retrieve information on a particular geographical area, then combine this with the mapping capabilities of SitaWare Headquarters to significantly increase situational awareness and provide users with a range of useful data. Sommer points to Automatic Identification System (AIS) data in the naval domain, where SitaWare Insight can help identify patterns within such information: "SitaWare Insight AI can learn what is normal pattern of life in a certain area and then automatically detect and flag anomalies." SitaWare Insight is further enhanced through advanced image and object recognition technology. As such, it can be trained to identify different military objects like vehicles or equipment, tagging these with the appropriate metadata and storing them in the data lake for future access. "This means that later on, you can search for a specific vehicle type, a general topic, or information on a specific area," Sommer explained, adding that it also provides Natural Language Processing technology. "It can read a document of 100 pages or more then produce a one-page summary of key take aways." SitaWare Insight offers a scalable, future-proof solution through its underlying cloud-native architecture, which ensures security and the correct handling and management of data. It enables users to share data on a need-to-know basis and at different classification levels, defining specific user groups to manage access. SitaWare Insight is a significant enabler for the intelligence branch, operational planners, and the soldier on the ground, providing them with a holistic view of the battlefield. "Operational planners are fully dependant on information from the intelligence community.
